Javi Martinez has admitted he is ready to leave Bayern Munich with his contract expiring next summer.

Martinez joined the Bundesliga giants back in the summer of 2012 from Athletic Bilbao, going onto make 252 appearances for the club as they continued their dominance in German football.

The Spaniard was close to returning to Bilbao last summer but a move failed to come to fruition, and he has since made 14 appearances for Bayern in all competitions this season.

Martinez is delighted to be back in favour in Munich but his time at Bayern appears to finally be coming to an end with his deal expiring in June next year.

And the 32-year-old, who can operate in midfield or in central defence, has claimed that he wants to begin a new chapter elsewhere.

After being quizzed over his future ahead of Bayern’s Champions League clash at Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, Martinez replied: ‘This is not the moment to discuss what will happen in June 2021.

‘Anything can happen. I had great years here and we will see what happens.

‘I would like to try something new, no matter where, but something new before I end my career.

‘The contract says it is the last year. I am happy to be here now and I am part of the team and that is what is important.’

Martinez, who has won the World Cup and European Championships with Spain, has enjoyed a trophy-laden time with Bayern.

Since joining in 2012, Martinez has won eight consecutive Bundesliga titles, two Champions Leagues, five German Cups and one FIFA Club World Cup.
